Easy to move around your home
BABYBJÖRN Cradle is perfect in the early months when your newborn alternates short periods of sleep and wakefulness. The compact and light cradle is easy to move from room to room so that you can always keep your baby close – both day and night.
Attractive canopy as accessory
BABYBJÖRN Canopy for Cradle makes the cradle extra cosy for your baby. The canopy screens and softens ambient light to create a cosier feeling.

Airy and soft design
The sides of the cradle are made of airy and soft mesh fabric that the baby can breathe through, even if the baby’s face is very close to the side. You do not need to buy a crib bumper for the cradle because its sides are made entirely of fabric – there are no bars or loose parts to trap tiny hands or feet.
Unique and safe rocking action
The cradle’s unique design provides a softly sprung movement similar to the movement of a pram. Thanks to its design, there is no risk of the cradle getting stuck at an angle that might be dangerous for your baby. Read the whole story behind product development.

Compact and cosy
Babies enjoy sleeping in snug and cosy surroundings which remind them of being in Mummy’s tummy. This is why the cradle is specially sized for your little baby and can be used from newborn to about six months.
Did you know?
A newborn baby has a different daily rhythm compared to older children and adults. While infants sleep for an average of 16 to 20 hours a day, their sleep is divided into several periods throughout the day and night. This makes it important to buy a comfortable and secure bed that is easy to move around so you can always be close to your baby.

When can I begin using BABYBJÖRN Cradle for my baby?
BABYBJÖRN Cradle has been developed to be used by a newborn baby until he or she can sit unaided (approx.6 months) or weighs 8kg.

What is special about the rocking action of BABYBJÖRN Cradle?
The movement is similar to that of a pram with spring suspension. The cradle is easy to rock in all directions. You can rock the cradle with gentle hand or foot movements. BABYBJÖRN Cradle is set in motion by your baby’s movements and a baby who wakes up may be lulled back to sleep. Some sleep experts claim that children do not sleep as deeply when they are in motion. But the cradle stops rocking once your baby falls asleep, so he or she does not get accustomed to constant movement while asleep.
“The minute we found the cradle I knew I had to have it! It looks so good and feels warm and cosy. Holger slept really well in it from day one. When he moves, it gently rocks and that’s probably one of the reasons. His big brothers like to sit beside it and watch their baby brother through the mesh fabric and they love rocking him to sleep.
We bought the canopy as well to get an even cosier feeling and, as Holger is born in summertime, having it as a mosquito net felt extra safe. When we went to Grandma and Grandpa’s we folded up the cradle and took it with us. Because it’s so light and can be folded flat, it works well as a travel cot in the beginning. Being able to take it with you from room to room and between floors is an added bonus. I’ll really miss it when Holger has outgrown it! "

Developing a safe cradle
Andreas Zandrén, Head of Product Development at BabyBjörn, was entrusted with developing a cradle. The list of requirements was specific – it had to help the baby fall asleep, be comfortable and have an attractive design. But above all the cradle had to be safe.
The task was a real challenge and the project took a long time. Many ideas were tested before the product development team finally had a prototype ready that seemed to meet all the stringent requirements.
Then Andreas read American physician Doctor Mark Brandenburg’s book “Child Safe”. Doctor Brandenburg is an emergency physician and has written a book with practical tips for parents on preventing accidents in the home. He includes a special warning about cradles in his book. There are many risks associated with cradles and finding a safe cradle on the market is difficult.
This filled Andreas with doubt. If a leading physician in the USA is warning people about cradles perhaps completing the project would be a mistake? He discussed the dilemma with Björn Jakobson, the founder of BabyBjörn who has a reputation for being notoriously meticulous about safety issues. Björn had discontinued many far less troublesome projects than this over the years. But instead he encouraged Andreas to meet Doctor Brandenburg to look into all the safety issues.
Doctor Brandenburg welcomed Andreas into his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He examined the prototype and was actually impressed – its unique design solved the biggest safety issue! Doctor Brandenburg contends that the greatest risk with cradles is that they can get stuck at an angle which can be dangerous for the baby. But this cradle stands firmly on the floor, does not have a traditional rocking movement and so could not get stuck in any one position. Furthermore, this solution also created a gentle and soothing rocking movement that would help the baby to fall asleep. Doctor Brandenburg only suggested a few small changes that would make the cradle even better.
After six years of product development, the BABYBJÖRN Cradle was finally ready.
