Discover the world together
When your child’s neck muscles have grown strong enough (around four months) and he or she is ready to meet the world, you can carry your child facing forwards – in secure contact with you all the time. Meeting an exciting world with one’s back resting safely against mom or dad’s chest is a great source of delight to most little ones. Why can the child only be carried in an upright position in BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Miracle?
Baby Carrier Miracle was developed in collaboration with pediatricians to meet the specific needs of delicate newborns. For the newborn, the free passage of air is extremely important. That’s why it is essential that the baby carrier provides sufficient support, keeps the child upright and doesn’t allow his/her body to slump. In Baby Carrier Miracle, the head and neck support, and the upright position, which allows for the free passage of air, are optimally suited to the newborn’s little body.

Why can’t I carry more than 26.5 lbs/12 kg in BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Miracle?
In designing Baby Carrier Miracle, our starting point was the newborn, when body and eye contact with the parent are the most essential. During the first months of life, among other things, the child is particularly in need of clear airways as well as head and neck support. During the first year of life, most children triple in weight. At 15 months, children weigh around 26.5 lbs/12 kg. Many have already begun walking and now want to do so without help. To develop a baby carrier suitable for both newborns and children weighing over 26.5 lbs/12 kg, we would have been forced to compromise on both safety and functionality in terms of the newborn, which we are neither able nor willing to do.

For how long at a time is it OK to carry my baby in BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Miracle?
You can carry your child in the baby carrier for as long as he or she is content. However, small children should not remain still in the same position for longer periods of time. We recommend that you keep a close eye on your baby’s signals and switch between the baby carrier and, for example, a bouncer, stroller or cradle/crib.

Variety is the spice of life – and spares your back
The fundamental principle of ergonomics is to change positions often. Varying pressure points is the best way to optimise carrying comfort and duration. Try out different positions to find out what feels best for you and your child. Adjustments can also be carried out with the child still in the baby carrier.

Take more weight on your shoulders
Loosen the waist belt and tighten the shoulder straps to increase the load on your shoulders. You can also vary the load on your shoulders by moving the back support up or down.

Take more weight on your waist/hips
Loosen the shoulder straps slighty to take the load off your shoulders and transfer it to the waist belt.
You can also adjust baby’s position
It feels natural to carry your newborn baby facing you and high up on your chest – in secure contact with you all the time. When your child is bigger, he or she can be carried lower down and facing forwards (around 4 months).

Carry your child higher up
Tighten the shoulder straps while lifting the child from underneath to move the child closer to you and higher up on your chest.

Carry your child lower down
Loosen both the upper and lower straps. Pull the waist belt and back support down until the child is in the desired position. Tighten the straps.

Anna and Olle
”We use the baby carrier in all sorts of situations – at Olle’s big sister’s swimming school, when Olle is tired or sick, if the elevator is out of order or when we ramble in the forest. Because it’s so easy to put on, I use it even when I’m running small errands – and it’s so comfy. Just great when carrying Olle for longer periods.
The baby carrier’s biggest plus is you can adjust it for pressure point relief. The waist belt helps relieve the weight on my back and shoulders. The baby carrier’s design allows me to carry Olle close to my body, which helps my posture and means Olle sits securely and comfortably. And it just doesn’t feel so heavy and means I can carry him for much longer than with other baby carriers – around three times longer. The baby sitter can be adjusted to fit different users. I prefer to use the waist belt alot, while Olle’s dad prefers to take the weight on his shoulders.
The baby carrier feels safe and sturdy – yet soft at the same time. Olle really likes it and shows his appreciation when I take it out to use it.”
Anna, mom to Olle, 11 months
”I am truly delighted with the baby carrier. This is the first baby carrier I can really use, taking into account my bad back and painful shoulders. And furthermore, it’s so easy to put on and adjust so that it sits perfectly. I wore it the first time for three hours. What’s more it fits my husband and he’s just over 6 feet tall.”
Ulrika Lundblad, mom to Isabel and Alicia
"This is a significant step up in terms of quality from my previous carriers. The difference is immediately evident in the amount of padding, the better support structures, and the ease-of-use of the clasps..."

Background – why a baby carrier?
Small children have an enormous need for closeness in the form of body and eye contact with their parent(s). Research shows that this is especially important from birth and during the child’s first 5-6 months of life. Besides having a positive effect on sleep, nursing and digestion, this closeness reinforces the emotional bond between parent and child.
When Björn Jakobson developed his first BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier in 1973, he gave a great deal of thought to how a parent can give his or her newborn as much body contact and closeness as possible. Today, we at BabyBjörn constantly receive acknowledgement – in the shape of stories and photographs from all over the world – that our baby carriers are a great help in the everyday lives of many parents. Here’s what one father has to say about carrying his child in a BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier:
“It (the baby carrier) makes it possible for me, an active parent, to continue my activities, at the same time knowing that my child is comfortable and sharing the experience with me.”

Dr Ragnar Olegård
In order to make certain that our baby carriers provide the best possible environment for the child, we work closely with leading pediatricians when developing our products. And thus far, we have been very pleased with our baby carriers, which are recommended by pediatricians for use from birth. However, as we constantly strive to refine our products, and hope that more and more parents will decide to carry their children close, we asked ourselves, ”How can we make this phenomenal aid even better?”
Our product development team visits test families at least three times a week to observe how our products work in real life and to see what needs exist. After having listened closely to our test families and to consumers, we realized that numerous parents were now asking for more pressure point relief when their children are a few months older and heavier. We already had a baby carrier that was ideal for newborns but, of course, we also wanted parents to feel it was the perfect solution for carrying their child even when the child has grown a little heavier. With this as our starting point, and armed with nearly 40 years of knowhow and experience of baby carriers, our product development department initiated a new project: designing an entirely novel and unique baby carrier that was not only ergonomically perfect for the child, but for mom and dad, too.
What was important to bear in mind?
We began by looking at the child’s needs. According to leading pediatricians, the essential prerequisite for a sensitive newborn is that the baby carrier provides proper support for the head and neck, an upright body position to ensure the free passage of air, as well as the correct position for the child’s legs, which should be turned slightly outwards and not locked into one place. Beyond these medical considerations, we felt that no extra accessories, such as pillow or insert, should be required to carry the newborn in the baby carrier. An insert that might slip and land askew could compromise the newborn’s safety. Moreover, an extra insert in the baby carrier can make things extremely warm for the child.
In the beginning, the child must be carried tummy against tummy, to ensure that the baby’s head and neck are properly supported. But after having studied children in baby carriers since 1973, we know that when the child’s neck muscles have grown strong enough (around four months), he or she will want to turn around to see everything that’s going on around him or her. Pediatricians confirm that this is a natural developmental stage in children.
After numerous user tests, we also know that many children fall asleep comfortably while being carried in their baby carriers. This was something we needed to consider.
For us, it was a given that the baby carrier must be perfect from birth through the first 5-6 months, since this is when the demands on closeness, (head and neck) support and safety are the greatest.
Our user tests shown that when children begin walking on their own, they no longer want to be carried in a baby carrier. This happens when the child is around 15 months and weighs about 26 lbs/12 kg.
As for where to set the upper limit, our user tests had shown that when children begin walking on their own, they no longer want to be carried in a baby carrier. This happens when the child is around 15 months and weighs about 26 lbs/12 kg. Since our focus was on creating a baby carrier that is at its best when both the child’s and the parent’s need is greatest, we chose 26 lbs/12 kg as our upper limit and maximum weight for the baby carrier.
After this, the challenge was to make carrying more comfortable for the parent whose child has grown a bit heavier. Around 17lbs/8 kg, carrying becomes quite heavy for most people, regardless of how they carry. After doing many tests together with parents, we had, however, established that opinions on what would make carrying more comfortable differed quite a bit. The new carrier needed to be flexible and adjustable in several ways to suit the person(s) carrying.
Our solution?
During the entire design and development process, we consulted leading pediatricians to ensure that our new baby carrier would have the best possible design for a newborn. We also borrowed heavily from our earlier baby carriers that had been developed with newborns in mind. Like these, our new baby carrier was made to ”grow” with the child. It’s a perfect fit for newborns, but thanks to an innovative size adjustment buckle on the inside of the carrier, as baby grows bigger, the baby carrier can be made larger. The baby carrier was designed to give the child ample room to move his or her arms and legs. This way, the child can adjust his or her own position in the baby carrier when the need arises. When the child is ready, around the age of four months, the head support can be folded down and the child can be carried facing forward, to discover the world –still safe and close to his or her parent. Also, the front of the baby carrier can be detached entirely, so that the child can smoothly be put down into a bed or stroller when he or she has fallen asleep.
Variety is the spice of life – and spares your back!
The fundamental principle of ergonomics is to change positions often. Our product development team adhered to this and designed an entirely unique carrying solution for our new baby carrier. Not only did we give it a generously padded and comfortable waist belt, but also many innovative possibilities that create variety for the person carrying. The carrier can therefore not only be adjusted to the parent’s size, but to his or her individual needs, as well. With simple adjustments, with the child still in the baby carrier, the adult carrying baby can distribute the child’s weight between his or her shoulders, waist and hips. For even more options, the child’s position can also be varied. The child can be carried high up on the adult’s chest – heart to heart – fulfilling the need for closeness, or further down – creating eye contact and a moment to chat. What’s more, the child can be carried facing inward or facing forward (from about four months).
Soft and gentle for sensitive skin
For someone who is new to the world, being carried in a baby carrier should feel cozy and pleasant. That’s why the seams on BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Miracle have been placed on the outside, so that they won’t chafe baby’s arms or legs. The head support straps have extra padding and feel soft against the child’s cheeks. Also, the fabric on the inside of the baby carrier was designed to be particularly smooth and gentle on sensitive skin. The fabric complies with the criteria for Oeko-Tex Class 1 and is guaranteed free from health-hazardous substances.
A miracle is born!
After two years of intensive work, our product development department was finally satisfied that they had reached their difficult goal: ergonomic perfection for both parent and child – from newborn to 15 months – in our new, unique BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier Miracle.
