BabyBjörn celebrates 35 years of Carrying Close
PRESS RELEASE July 14, 2008

In 1973, the Swedish baby products company BabyBjörn AB changed the way parents carry their babies by introducing the first BabyBjörn Baby Carrier. Since then, an estimated 25 million BabyBjörn babies have been carried close to their parents in a BabyBjörn Baby Carrier. Over the years, the parents of the BabyBjörn Baby Carrier, Björn Jakobson and his wife Lillemor have received numerous awards in several countries for the idea that came from pediatricians in the late 60s.
“The BabyBjörn Baby Carrier was a direct result of our cooperation with paediatricians who had discovered the importance of early bonding and close contact between parent and baby,” Björn Jakobson, Founder and President of BabyBjörn AB said. “As a young father, this was something that I really took to heart. After many years of testing, interviewing and carrying, the Baby Carrier ‘Close to heart’ was introduced.”
The close cooperation with paediatricians continues to play a decisive role in finding solutions to everyday challenges for families with small children and to the company’s uncompromising commitment to safety and quality. Today, BabyBjörn’s international team of medical advisers includes leading paediatricians in Sweden, Germany and the USA.
35 years ago it was unheard of that a father would carry his child in a baby carrier. With a design that appeals to both mum and dad, Lillemor Jakobson, Chief Designer, pioneered the baby product industry and helped encourage fathers to carry and bond with their babies.
“Both parents should feel comfortable carrying their babies in a BabyBjörn Baby Carrier.” Lillemor Jakobson said “It feels good to have contributed so that fathers today are more involved with their baby.”
“The concern for babies and small children is something that people all over the world have in common,” Björn Jakobson said. “Lillemor and I are grateful to have been working with the parents of future generations for over four decades.”
The BabyBjörn range of Baby Carriers has four different models to suit parents lifestyles. Baby Carrier Original and Baby Carrier Active with extra lumbar support, Baby Carrier Air in breathable 3D-mesh material and Baby Carrier Synergy which features the 3D-mesh and the lumbar support.
