Oeko-tex
All BabyBjörn textiles that come into close contact with your child are approved in accordance with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1. Oeko-Tex guarantees that any certified textile does not contain health-hazardous substances at a concentration that could be hazardous to human health.
The certificates issued to approved products are updated annually by Oeko-Tex. If a product is changed in any way, it undergoes testing for new certification.
All BabyBjörn textiles that come into contact with your child’s skin have been tested and approved in accordance with Oeko-Tex Standard 100, class 1. This category is comprised of baby products that comply with the strictest requirements with regard to human ecology.
The greater the contact between textile and skin (and the more sensitive the skin), the more rigorous the Oeko-Tex requirements. Here’s how the Oeko-Tex product classification system works:
Class 1
Textiles and textile toys for infants and small children up to the age of three, e.g. underwear, rompers, bedding and soft toys.
Class 2
Textiles with a majority of their surface in direct contact with the skin, e.g. underwear, bedding, terry cloth (towels etc), shirts and blouses.
Class 3
Textiles that do not come into direct contact with the skin, or only a small part comes into contact with the skin, e.g. jackets, coats and linings.
Class 4
Interior/decorative textiles, such as tablecloths, curtains, textile wall-coverings and carpets.
Oeko-Tex has the following parameters on its list of requirements and threshold limit values:
- Specifically prohibited AZO colorants
- Carcinogenic and allergenic colorants
- Formaldehydes
- Pesticides
- Chlorinated phenols
- Chlorotoluenes and chlorobenzenes
- Extractable heavy metals
- Color-fastness
- pH value
- Phthalates in baby articles
- Organic tin compounds, organotins (TBT och DBT)
- Emission of volatiles
- Odors
- Biologically active agents and flame retardant products are regulated separately.
