Letter of recommendation for BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers
There is nothing more beautiful than feeling close to your baby. BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers permit an intimate contact between the parents and their baby and provides an affectionate bond that is beneficial to both. In addition BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers are designed to protect the baby and offer comfort and freedom of movement for the parent.
The child's posture
From a medical point of view, it is important that the baby maintains a correct body position while giving baby's spine and hips secure support.
During the first few months of his or her life, the baby's spine has a rounded C shape from its little head to its toes. When the newborn baby is placed in a BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier, the spine adopts the correct C shaped posture and moreover mummy or daddy can keep an eye on her child and attend to his or her needs.
The head and neck.
When a baby is born the spine and neck muscles are weak and the relative size of its head with respect to the body is greater which increases the risk of damage to the neck caused by sudden movements. BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers provide fantastic support for the nape of the neck and head, by positioning the baby facing towards the parents, the best position during the first few months of his or her life.
The baby's hips are also very important as they need to have the correct posture and mobility. A posture which doesn't allow the hips to be open could be harmful to the development of the hip joints and could also cause hip dysplasia. Hip dysplasia can be defined as when the acetabulum, the area linking the pelvis with the femoral head, has not developed normally and has little concavity to house the femoral head correctly causing it to become dislocated.
In BABYBJÖRN baby carriers the hips are in a comfortable position, which favors the correct development of the hips from the first few months of the child´s life. This risk is diminished from the fourth month onwards and maintaining this position is comfortable for the baby.
The design of BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers also provides free movement of all the leg joints including the hips which further stimulates the correct nutrition and development of the joints.
Between 3 and 6 months the baby progressively acquires the muscular strength to hold its head up and keep the body straight at the same time as developing far vision as he or she starts to become curious about their surroundings. At this moment the child can be placed looking forwards by bending the upper and lower support of the carrier allowing them access to the world whilst maintaining the sensation of safety provided by the physical contact with mummy or daddy and converting the outside world into one big playground.
As there is no further risk of hip dysplasia from the forth month of the baby's life, keeping this open position is very comfortable for the child.
Comfort and safety
To encourage harmonious contact between the parents and their baby, BABYBJÖRN Baby Carriers provide safety and comfort for all.
The baby carrier is designed to protect the baby and to ensure adequate support and posture avoiding areas of pressure or tight straps that could cause harm. At the same time it provides correct support to the wearer by evenly distributing the weight and avoiding muscle fatigue. The straps on the shoulders are wide and padded and if the size of the mother or father permits, has a back or pelvis support.
After all, the baby carrier must be comfortable for parent and baby alike. Comfort for the child, adjusting to his or her size and made from a suitable material for the climate, fresh and cool in the summer, and with inserts for the cold weather which are breathable and washable. Comfort for the wearer, easy to put on and take off with simple-to-use latches but which cannot come undone by themselves nor can they be loosened by baby.
