Support for the child’s back and hips
BabyBjörn’s baby carriers are uniquely designed to give proper support to the newborn’s head, neck, back and hips. You carry your child upright on your chest, in the same natural position as if you were carrying him or her in your arms.
The lower part of the baby carrier is designed to distribute the child’s weight evenly, at the same time as it is sufficiently wide to provide the correct position and freedom of movement for the child’s legs. This is the optimal position for the proper development of your child’s hip joints during his or her first months of life.
Development of the child’s motor skills and balance
In BabyBjörn’s baby carriers, your child is carried in a comfortable and correct position with the freedom to move his or her arms and legs. This freedom of movement is particularly important for the development of the child’s sense of balance, which is controlled by the vestibular system. The vestibular system is stimulated by physical movement and is most receptive when the child is between six and 12 months of age. In BabyBjörn’s baby carriers, development of the child’s motor skills and balance is enhanced because the child follows along with the parent’s movements, at the same time remaining free to move his or her own arms and legs.
Carrying bigger children
During the period that BabyBjörn baby carriers are used, most children not only triple in weight but also build up an enormous curiosity about their surroundings. That’s why it’s important for a baby carrier to ”keep up” with your child’s incredible development during the first year of life.
The best of two worlds
When the neck and back muscles are developed enough for your child to hold up his or her own head (around 4 months), you can fold down the head support and carry your child facing forward. Most children this age love discovering everything new and exciting, while feeling the safety and warmth of their mother or father’s body.
